About The Event

Register here: mountvernonfirst.org/monastery

You are invited to a 48-hour retreat at Saint Meinrad Archabbey, a Benedictine monastery located in southern Indiana, approximately two hours from Mount Vernon, Illinois.

The Benedictine tradition finds its roots in St. Benedict (born 480 CE), who created a "Rule" for monastic living, which continues to guide both monks and laypersons from many different traditions.

During these 48 hours, you will have the opportunity to join in prayer and worship with the monks throughout the day. We will tour the monastery grounds. We will have times for discussion and reflection. We will hopefully have the opportunity to visit with a monk who can describe this unique way of living and believing.

The cost is $250 per person (single occupancy) or $190 per person (double occupancy), which includes seven meals. Accommodations will be in the monastery Guest House, much like a modern motel. Each room has twin beds. Meals will be served in the Guest House cafeteria.

We will leave the church at 9:00 am on Monday, August 14, and return on Wednesday afternoon, August 16. For those who have not attended a monastery retreat, an orientation session will be held at 6:00 pm on Sunday, August 6, 2023.

Contact Rev. Victor Long if you have any questions, victor@mountvernonfirst.org.

You can learn more about the monastery at saintmeinrad.org.
